A recent survey, commissioned by the Performing Right Society (PRS) in conjunction with Saros Research, has revealed that the EastEnders theme is the most recognised out of four popular tunes, including the National Anthem.
Over a third of respondents chose the theme to the 23 year old TV Soap as the tune they instantly recognised, topping the table ahead of the National Anthem.
Simon May, Composer of the EastEnders theme tune said: ‘When EastEnders first appeared in 1985 it was such a great buzz walking down the street or being in a supermarket hearing people whistling or humming the theme. I've been amazingly lucky that thanks to the huge success of the show the theme is still popular and in the national psyche.’
